With the very first official "Northumberland Day” just a week away, Northumberland is gearing up for a whole host of fun festivities up and down the region over the next fortnight.
As a proud representer of the Northumbrian colours, we thought we’d wave our red & yellow flag and point you in the direction of some of the fantastic events taking place across the County (and beyond)...
27th - 29th May 2017, Amble (Family Friendly)
Music festivals, food festivals, beer festivals - they're all pretty commonplace throughout the world these days. But a puffin festival?! Well, there's few and far between! You'll only find an ever-so-niche Puffin festival in a few special locations - Northumberland of course being one of them!
Enjoy a ramble around Amble over the bank holiday weekend and marvel at all things Puffin in Northumberland's picturesque little port town. As part of the 3 day festival there’ll be a craft fair, guided nature walks, bird watching, local history talks, arts and crafts, as well as a splashing of watersports and a dashing of live music to get you up dancing. You can even go canoeing, kayaking or book a taster standup paddleboard session. Or for the less adventurous who don’t fancy getting a little wet in the water - they’ll be plenty to whet your appetite at the food stalls and mini beer festival.

Sunday 28th May 2017, Beadnell (Family friendly)
As part of Beadnell community's Northumberland Day celebrations - one of our fave Northumbrian pub eateries is putting on a laid-back summer garden party for all the family (dogs included!). So if you fancy an alfresco afternoon, complete with a hog roast and live music from local Berwick duo 'Summerland' as well as Northumbrian Pipes & Drums - get yourself down there from midday onwards. There’ll also be lots of local stalls to peruse at your leisure - so be sure to grab some tasty Northumbrian treats to takeaway.
Sunday 28th May 2017, Ashington (16+)
“Ashington Rocks” - now there’s a phrase you don’t hear everyday! And no, we’re not talking about rocks of coal. Next Sunday, as part of Ashington’s 150th celebrations and to mark the first Northumberland Day, White House Unique Social Club will be hosting a good old Northumbrian rock out. With 6 local Northumberland bands (Hair of the Derg, The Hookahs, HED, Dead Hand, King Size Voodoo Traveler and Ma Kelly's Boys) taking to the stage throughout the day and night, it's definitely worth a visit to this old coal mining village.
Saturday 3rd June 2017, Blyth (18+)
It may be a week after the main ‘Northumberland Day’ but we’re super excited about this one! This brand new one-dayer down on Blyth’s Riverside will be bringing some of the UK's best tribute bands to Northumberland’s premier port town (including The Stone Roses, Foo Fighters, Oasis, The Beatles, Pearl Jam, Fat Boy Slim, The Verve & Buddy Holly.) Also taking to the Hangar stage will be Lindisfarne Festival’s favourite hip hop cover band - yep, you guessed it: Hip Hop Hooray! With a licensed bar on site (at the old heliport site) and some great food vendors, it’s set to be a crackin’ day & night. Tickets are now SOLD OUT online, but word on the street is you can still grab a few from behind the bar at The Tavern in Blyth - but only if you’re quick!
*** We’ve also got 2 pairs of tickets to the Hangar Festival up for grabs in next week's Lindisfarne Lottery draw. Just book your Lindisfarne Festival tickets before midnight on 28th May for a chance to win.***
Mon 5th (Blyth), Tues 6th (Bedlington), Wed 7th (Ashington), Thurs 8th (Cramlington) June 2017 (14+)
Northumberland's favourite comedy night is back for another round in June and WE CAN'T WAIT! Punch-Drunk Comedy is reaching it's all-time fever pitch following an incredible start to 2017 and the comeback of PDC founder & international stand-up comic Kai Humphries. Last month Kai returned from a successful Australia festival run to host a heavy-weight lineup of TV talent including the critically acclaimed international comedian & one of the regular “Chasers” from ITV’s awardwinning quiz show The Chase: Paul "Sinner Man" Sinha. Their next events again boast an incredible international lineup of the best laughter money can buy, headlined this time by one of Britain's most inventive comedians Adam Bloom!
Punch Drunk will be taking over the comedy tent at this year's Lindisfarne Festival and it's gonna be an absolute uproar. We'll be announcing the lineup very soon and you're in for a real belly-tickling treat, so make sure you get your tickets! But if you can't wait until September, get yourself down to one of their upcoming events - we'll be seeing you there! (well, if we can see through our tears of laughter).
Fri 26th - Mon 29th May 2017, Barnard Castle (Family Friendly)
Ok, so this one’s not exactly in Northumberland - but it’s not too far from the border and it is such a fantastic event that we just had to give it a mention. Organised by our good friends and previous Lindisfarne Festival performers and workshop facilitators Hannabiel & Yilis (Ladies of Midnight Blue), Harambee Pasadia Afro Fusion Music Festival is a 4-day family camping extravaganza in celebration of the diverse cultures, foods, music, artists and fusions of the African diaspora. Set in the picturesque Barnard Castle, you can also try your hand at some BMXing, water sports or just get your groove on to some cool music or partake in one of many dance workshops.

Team LF will be representing at many events both throughout the Northumberland Day celebrations and throughout the summer! Keep your eyes peeled for the Lindisfarne Festival flags & come and say hi!
